Binghamton at CAA: Hye-ri Oh

Doctoral candidate Hye-ri Oh will present a paper entitled “Ambivalent Exchange: The Gift of Photographic Albums between Korea and Japan in 1876” at the 2013 College Art Association Annual Meeting, in the session “Reconsidering the Nineteenth Century Through Asian Art.” This will be the second time Hye-ri has presented material drawn from her dissertation, titled “Photography and Criticism in Korea: Modernity, National Identity and the Conception of Photography from the late Chosŏn Dynastic Period to Japanese Colonialism,” at the CAA Annual Meeting. In February 2011, she also delivered a paper, “Translating Photography: The Migration of the Conception of ‘Sajin’ from Portrait to Photograph,” in a session on “Transcultural Visuality: Photography in East-Asia.”
