Faculty Activities: Jeffrey Kirkwood


The Art History department is pleased to welcome Jeffrey Kirkwood to Binghamton. Professor Kirkwood’s research concentrates on the history of media technologies in art, science, and philosophy. He wrote his dissertation at Princeton University, where he was a Harold W. Dodds Fellow, about the epistemic upheaval in scientific and cultural conceptions of the psyche accompanying the introduction of early and proto-cinematic technologies. Professor Kirkwood also received an MA at the University of Chicago and a BA at the University of Colorado, Boulder. In 2011 he was awarded a Fulbright Grant to Germany and was a Visiting Junior Fellows at the Internationales Kolleg für Kulturtechnikforschung und Medienphilosophie (IKKM) at Bauhaus University in Weimar, Germany.
