FROM THE CURATORS
In celebration of Latin@ Heritage Month, ¡CULTURA! Ithaca invites emerging and professional artists based in the Finger Lakes, Southern Tier, and Western New York regions to submit work that captures the complex and multilayered richness of the contemporary Latin@ experience.
In addition to highlighting regional talent of the highest caliber, this exhibition will also offer the opportunity to pay tribute to one of Latin America’s most influential figures: Uruguayan writer Eduardo Galeano, who passed away in April of this year at age 74.
To publish Eduardo Galeano is to publish the enemy: the enemy of lies, indifference, above all of forgetfulness. Thanks to him, our crimes will be remembered. His tenderness is devastating, his truthfulness furious. -John Berger
